Mr Viktor Orbán met Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom on Wednesday, 2 March in Budapest. Besides the Middle East peace process, the Fidesz-Likud relationship was also discussed at the meeting.

There are real chances for changes in the Middle East peace process which could serve the security of Israel and the stabilisation of the region at the same time, Mr Viktor Orbán said after the meeting. We continue to regard Israel's security as one of the most important issues on the way towards the security of the region, he said. Mr Orbán thanked Mr Shalom for his invitation to Israel which would be realised as soon as his timetable permits, he said. Addressing the issue of the relationship between Fidesz and Israel's Likud Party, Mr Orbán expressed its conviction that his visit to Israel would create the chances for making this contact lasting and permanent between the two parties. We have concluded a very useful and fruitful meeting, and we both look on to the future with good hopes, Mr Viktor Orbán said.
